How We Install Staircases

How did you do this? How did you get those stairs in the door?

It’s a common question. People sometimes expect us to be in the middle of their construction project for weeks. That’s not the case. When we build stairways for our clients, HOW we’re going to install the stair is part of our thinking from the beginning of the design process. It allows us to complete the installation in hours, not months. Some of the finest custom builders and architects in the country use Arcways for this very reason.

From penthouse apartments (on busy city streets) to corporate headquarters, coastal residences and historic properties, we have met the challenges of complicated installations to give our customers the stair of their dreams. If you’re facing a challenging environment, talk to us. We can help.

Staircase Installation: Coastal Home in Jacksonville, Florida

This isn’t an ordinary staircase! To reflect its site on the water, the gorgeous custom balustrade incorporates a wave that continues all the way around. Our thanks to Collins Builders Group for this amazing time lapse installation video. Tim Calderala, their COO, said of the project: “Our clients and our team couldn’t be happier with the result. Amazing craftsmanship and collaboration from beginning to end.” We loved working with Collins on this project. The home is really lovely.

Staircase Installation: Bridgehampton, New York | Coastal Home by Architect Steven Harris

This home has been featured in Architectural Digest and other important magazines and for good reason – it is spectacular. Architect Steven Harris has done an amazing job of integrating this home into its coastal surroundings in a way that’s truly unique. The staircase we provided sits center stage. As you can see from the video, it was complex installation. The end result is simply stunning.

Staircase Installation: Massive Staircase Installed in a 7-Story New York City Brownstone

This time-lapse video shows how we installed a 7-story staircase in a NYC brownstone. The first portion depicts the team setting one of the lower unit stairs from below, then transitions into the setting of another stair unit from above, and finishes with a proud walk up all 6 stairways in place. Get ready and hold on tight!

Staircase Installation: Gray Television Headquarters in Atlanta

During construction, this staircase was coated with an intumescent coating to provide incredible fire resistance. It’s not only safe, it’s a really beautiful finish. The stairway adds a strong architectural element to Gray TV’s corporate headquarters.

Staircase Installation: Helical Stair in 4-Story Silo | Upstate New York

With multiple levels of a helical staircase, this installation required an incredible level of detail both in construction and installation. See how we created the stair for this perfect lookout.

Staircase Installation: Modern Staircase | California Coastal Home

This beautiful modern, mono-beam staircase takes center stage in this custom coastal house by Schaefer Custom Homes. Built on the shoreline at Pismo Beach, California, the home takes full advantage of its spectacular location. We love how the staircase is so central to the home without ever blocking the view.

Finished Installation: J.Crew | Spring Street | New York City

We know it can sometimes be difficult to actually picture the finished staircase in its final location. With this stairway for the J.Crew store on Spring Street in New York City you can follow the stair from construction in our shop through delivery and installation. And now you can see it when it’s been finished.

Staircase Installation: J.Crew | Spring Street | New York City

If you follow Arcways, you know we spend a lot of time installing stairs in some amazing New York City properties. NYC has all the challenges … busy streets, tight quarters, multi-story, and gorgeous original designs. We recently completed this installation in a new J.Crew location on Spring Street.

Staircase Installation: Upstate New York

We sometimes get asked how many weeks we’ll be in a project installing the stair. It’s not weeks … it’s hours! From the moment we begin thinking about a staircase design, we take the site into consideration. Wherever possible, we build the stair in such a way that it can be moved in through the front door. (Sometimes that’s just not possible it multi-story buildings so you’ll sometimes see cranes in our installation photos.) This project is a perfect example of what we do during an installation.
